‘Textures’ has existed in one form or another for more than a decade: a small stall at the ‘Cockermouth Craft & Gift Centre’ has led to four different premises in Keswick (so far).
What began as a hobby and an obsessive love of fabric has grown to involve a team of talented people contributing their own particular flair & talent.
We’re enjoying the current climate in home decor whereby the rule book has largely been thrown away and people are gaining confidence to develop their ‘own’ individual style. This look often involves an eclectic mix of old and new, an array of colours, textures, pattern, classical and contemporary. We believe that home should be a unique place filled with the special things we’ve chosen to keep; family photos, lovely pictures, treasures from our travels. We feel that we embraced this change a long time ago and we are delighted that the slavish attachment to all things matching has been replaced by a more relaxed approach from our customers who are now more adventurous about combinations of colour, pattern and design. We try to support this change by offering an interesting mix of fabrics; established names alongside new designers. In these austere times we understand that most people are working to a tight budget and we want to find bargains for our customers. Because we are experiencing an economic gloom, more than ever we need our homes to be cheery, comfortable, welcoming places in which to live.
We come in all shapes and sizes, united by a passion for fabric, colour, design and all things beautiful.
You may have met the shop team, Jayne & Karin: we both enjoy working in the shop, meeting new customers and greeting old friends. You may also have seen Linda, occasionally, working in the shop.
Behind the scenes we have Linda and Dawn who do the bulk of the sewing from their own workshops. Both are incredibly industrious and produce work of a very high standard. We also have Carol who makes the Roman blinds; she is neatness personified which comes in very handy with anything as fiddly as blinds. We also have Lesley & Carol who help out with sewing when we need them; both are cheery souls and we enjoy having them along with us. Kathleen has been a valuable constant in the team, sorting out the finances on a voluntary monthly basis. It is through Kathleen that we have become familiar with the ‘Make-a Wish’ children’s charity and we hope to do more fund raising for this brilliant charity.
